At first glance, we are a piano trio with a vocalist, which implies a jazz context. It is true that what we do is from that tradition, but we stray quite a bit from that in our song choices. It is always a challenge to describe a band based on a genre. I have heard some people describe us as a jazz group, but we think that is painting with a broad brush. This is a band trying to do justice to great songs that we love, and these songs come from the American standards, modern popular music, French song, and whatever else tweaks our interest. By choice, we try to orchestrate for a piano-bass-drum framework. That means that if we play “Kiss” by Prince, it’s still piano-bass-drum but embracing the core of that song regardless of instrumentation. We interpret Gershwin, Diana Krall, Holly Cole, Sting, Jamie Collum, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Hoagy Carmichael, Beatles, Paul Simon, James Taylor, Rihanna, the Motown songbook, Bill Withers, and on and on. In our time together we’ve tried a lot and learned a lot.
Come join us for a fun night of great songs.
